Birds are great companions and smaller birds are well suited to homes where there is limited space. However, all birds appreciate as much room as possible so purchase the largest cage your budget and living area will allow. The easiest bird for most families is one of the smaller species, such as a budgerigar, cockatiel or lovebird. The larger species such as the cockatoos can be very demanding and have a very long lifespan. Permits may be required from the government to keep native parrots and cockatoos so check the regulations in your area.
