Chinese Crested
The Chinese Crested is believed to originate from Africa where it was used by the Aztecs as bed a warmer. When sailors on Chinese trade ships discovered these little dogs they found them to be great ratters for onboard their ships.
There are two types, the Hairless and the Powder Puff. The Hairless has smooth skin with hair only on the feet, tail and head and the Powder Puff has a long, soft double coat. They come in many colours and the skin of the Hairless can vary from pale pink to almost black and often spotted.
“Cresties” are lively, outgoing little dogs, very affectionate with their owners and make great family pets, although children do need to be respectful of their minimal size and delicate skin. They should be well socialized as puppies with both people and other dogs as they are prone to timidity. The Hairless will require sunscreen during the summer to protect the skin and a warm coat during the cold months.
