Anatolian Shepherd

The Anatolian Shepherd is traditionally a livestock guarding dog which originated in Anatolia, Turkey.

They are a powerfully built dog with a broad head, thick neck and a sturdy body. They have a dense double coat which may be of any colour, the predominant colours being cream or fawn with a black face and ears. Regular grooming is recommended to remove loose hair and excess undercoat.

Anatolians are a highly intelligent breed with an independent nature. They will develop a strong bond with their family and flock being naturally loyal and protective without aggression. They can be wary with strangers so it is important to socialise the Anatolian well as a young pup and in adulthood.

Training should be started from an early age as Anatolians are renowned for their independent and on occasion obstinate personality. They need strong leadership from their handler with a consistent and loving approach. They are not recommended for an inexperienced owner.
