American Staffordshire Terrier
The American Staffordshire Terrier was originally developed as a working dog by American farmers in the early 1800’s. They were first used for general farm work, hunting, companionship and as homestead guardians.
Although there were instances of the breed being used as a fighting dog during the early years of development, selective breeding since the 1930’s has lead away from the fighting heritage.
The Amstaff is a well muscled strong yet agile dog. He is generally a happy and outgoing dog with a confident and stable temperament. With people he is a loving, affectionate and loyal family pet. Their extreme attentiveness makes them easily trainable wanting nothing more than to please their master.
Early socialization is recommended as some un-socialised Amstaffs can be aggressive towards other dogs. A properly trained and socialised dog will make a great family companion.
